HARD TIMES WILL PASS.

THE SURVIVOR TREE

THE MOST SACRED symbol in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma is a TREE, Yes  a tree, sprawling, shade  -bearing ,Over eighty years old american elm.She endured the Oklahoma City bombing. Timothy McVeigh parked his death -laden truck only yards from her,The bombing was a domestic terrorist attack on the Alfred P. Murrah  Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. it killed 168 people and injured more than 680 others. The blast destroyed or damaged 324 buildings within a 16-block radius, destroyed or burned 86 cars, and shattered glass in 258 nearby buildings, causing at least an estimated $652 million worth of damage. The tree was burried in rubble. No one expected it to survive . No one gave any thought to the dusty branch stripped tree. but then she began to bud.Sprouts pressed through damaged bark;green leaves pushed away gray soot.Life resurrected from an acre of death. People noticed . The tree modeled resilience that the victims desired  So she was given the name THE SURVIVOR TREE..Tourists drive from miles around to se her .People pose for pictures beneath her. Arborists  carefully protect her. she adorns posters and letterhead .Other trees grow larger ,fuller ,even greener , but no one is equally cherished . The city treasures the tree not for her appearance , but her endurance   Like the survivor tree, we should be resilient , when people inexcusably , inexplicably maim and scar us. I challenge you to gather some strength and rise above the ruins.Start budding push away the soot, everything has a season.
