The city's population has grown by over 70% in the last 14 years.
Suggested solution in addition to the plans by the county government to de-congest the City.

Bogota city has an estimated population of 7.6 People ,and it covers an area of 1,587 SqKm's i.e 4,790 people per square kilomiter ,closer to Nairobi's 5,029 people per sq Km.
In this cities they have created separate lanes for the Transmilenio buses under the ,City's BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system.

The buses are diesel powered, purchased from such manufacturers as the Colombian-Brazilian company Marcopolo Superior, German conglomerate Mercedez - Benz and Scandinavian based companies as Volvo and Scania The buses are articulated (split into two sections with an accordion-like rotating middle to allow for sharp turns) and have a capacity of 160 passengers. A new, larger bi-articulated bus , with capacity for 270 passengers, was presented to the public in May 2007.
The buses carry 1.3M to 1.6M passengers per day.
